Getting started

OKAPI:Astrolabe is a space traffic coordination platform focused on bringing automation of collision avoidance to the next level. By adding proposed rules of the road and allowing operators to create protocols on how to act in a coordination case before its needed, critical conjunctions can be handled with a clear and mutual understanding on both sides.

It serves as a common place where to share each operator’s perspective and timeline. Past, planned, and tentative data can be shared, and responsive communication channels can be established to reach maximum transparency.

New features are being released incrementally on a regular basis. If you have feedback, questions, or wish for additional functionality, please get in touch with our help desk.

Setting up your account

To get started, you must have

  • an account at OKAPI:Astrolabe and
  • provided us access to your CDMs via Space-Track.

If you have not an account yet, please contact us to get started.

Get started via GUI

Once logged in, you are forwarded to the Dashboard as the landing page. It provides a summary of the next upcoming events, unread chat messages, recent protocol invitations, and an overview of the responsibility distribution between you and your conjunction partners. Its main purpose is to show you those information that require your attention.

If you switch to the Conjunctions tab, you see a list of all upcoming conjunction events (see Get an overview of your conjunction events).

Get started via API

Instead of using OKAPI:Astrolabe in a web browser, you can also interact with its API to facilitate automation. To establish API communication, please refer to the OKAPI:Astrolabe API page.

Set up your risk assessment thresholds

You can change the standard thresholds that are used to determine the risk of a conjunction based on your own internal guidelines, like miss distance or collision probability. There are more details here.

Manage your data sharing settings

Astrolabe allows you to set your default data sharing settings with other members of Astrolabe. These settings apply to CDMs, ephemerides, satellite information like the maneuverability status, etc. By default, nothing is shared with the secondary. You can find more information in the Data Sharing Settings page.

Manage your notifications

In Astrolabe, you can configure what notifications you would like to receive via email based on the type and severity of the notification. Please refer to Notification Settings.

Set up your satellites

Protocols rely on satellite properties to work. Although optional, keeping this information updated on your end helps making Astrolabe more useful for you and your conjunction partners.

More information on what satellite properties can be defined and how to do it is available here.
